Tar Heels Keep U.S. Open Qualifier Tucker Valliere In State for 2023-24

NEW COMMIT: The University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill has received their first verbal commitment on the men’s side for 2023 from in-state U.S. Open qualifier Tucker Valliere of Clyde, North Carolina.

He told Swimming World:

“I’m so pumped to announce my commitment to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill! I want to thank my family, friends/teammates, coaches, and most importantly God for giving me the talent and opportunity to swim at the next level. Go Heels!”

A talented breaststroker, Valliere does his club swimming with Blues Aquatics and most recently placed 23rd in the 200m breast at the Speedo Summer East Championships after earning best times in all of his events at Greensboro Sectionals. He also finaled in both breaststroke events at Cary Sectionals last short course season.

His best times include:

  • 100 breast – 56.91
  • 200 breast – 2:05.03
  • 200 IM – 1:54.93
  • 400 IM – 4:06.50
  • 100m breast – 1:05.42
  • 200m breast – 2:21.63

Currently a junior at The Asheville School, Valliere placed second in the 100 fly and third in the 100 breast as a sophomore at the North Carolina Independent Schools DII State Championships.

Under head coach Mark Gangloff, the Tar Heels finished sixth at the 2021 ACC Championships.
