NEW COMMIT: Futures qualifier Ben Eichberg of Fredericksburg, Va. has announced his verbal commitment to Miami Ohio for the 2022-23 season and beyond.

He told Swimming World:

“Searching for the right college was extremely difficult this past year.  Thanks to my coach and teammates, my family and the coaches at Miami University for being patient and helping me through the process.  I’m looking forward to continuing swimming and studying in Oxford.”

Eichberg is a versatile swimmer with a strong breaststroke and IM who trains year-round with Rappahannock Y Swim Team. He earned two best times at the NCSA Championships back in March where he finished 12th in both the 50 and 100 breast. In March 2020, he placed fourth in the 200 breast at Virginia Seniors.

His best times include:

  • 200 IM – 1:52.26
  • 400 IM – 4:01.07
  • 50 free – 21.51
  • 100 free – 47.38
  • 200 free – 1:42.96
  • 100 breast – 55.82
  • 200 breast – 2:02.43

A rising senior at Stafford Senior High School, Eichberg is a six-time individual Virginia 5A State Championship finalist. He placed third in the 100 breast and fifth in the 200 IM as a junior while taking seventh in the 100 breast and 11th in the 50 free during his sophomore season.

He has also received USA Swimming Scholastic All-American honors for his efforts in the classroom.

Under head coach Hollie Bonewit-Cron, the RedHawks won the 2021 MAC Championship title.

Miami Ohio is bringing in  Paul Brosky, Diego Pareja, Jonah Karschnik and Scott Spear this fall, so Eichberg will have three years of overlap with them.
