Joe Myhre, Mackenzie Padington Win Big Ten Swimmers of the Week Honors

Only four Big Ten teams raced this past weekend as Minnesota split with Northwestern and Rutgers lost to Florida Gulf Coast. Iowa beat Michigan State on both sides in the only inter-conference duel meet of the weekend. The Big Ten selected swimmers and divers from Iowa and Minnesota as the weekly swimmers and divers of the week. Iowa sophomore Joe Myhre and Minnesota freshman Mackenzie Padington were selected as the swimmers of the week.

Men’s Swimmer of the Week

Joe Myhre, Iowa

So. – St. Charles, Ill. – St. Charles North

Won the 200-yard freestyle (1:40.04) and 100-yard freestyle (44.82) in Iowa’s win over Michigan State and Northern Iowa

Contributed to a first-place win in the 200-yard medley and 400-yard free relays

Earns his first career Swimmer of the Week honor

Women’s Swimmer and Freshman of the Week

Mackenzie Padington, Minnesota

Campbell River, B.C., Canada – Claremont Secondary

Recorded two NCAA B Standard qualifying times in the 200- and 500-yard freestyle at 1:46.85 and 4:47.77, respectfully, and a first place finish in the 200-freestyle relay (22.48)

Posted the 13th best time in school history in the 200-yard freestyle and the 18th best time in the 500-yard freestyle in her first collegiate swim as a Golden Gopher

Earns her first career Swimmer of the Week and Freshman of the Week honor

Men’s Diver and Freshman of the Week

Anton Hoherz, Iowa

Spring, Texas – Oak Ridge

Earned first place victories on the one-meter (340.50) and three-meter (374.90) events in Iowa’s victory over Michigan State and Northern Iowa

Recorded NCAA zone qualifying marks in both events

Earns his first Diver of the Week and first Freshman of the Week award

Women’s Diver of the Week

Jacintha Thomas, Iowa

Jr. – Iowa City – Iowa City West

Earned first place in the one-meter (307.60) diving event in Iowa’s meet against Michigan State and Northern Iowa

Recorded an NCAA zone qualifying mark, a career best mark and the 7th best score in school history in the one-meter event

Earns her second career Diver of the Week award and the first of the season
