Olympic Champion Ryan Murphy Announces Engagement to Girlfriend Bridget Konttinen

Six-time Olympic medalist Ryan Murphy took to social media on Sunday morning to announce that he and girlfriend Bridget Konttinen are engaged. Murphy posted several pictures to his Twitter account, including a shot of the Olympic champion and world-record holder down on one me, with Konttinen holding her hands to face.

The 26-year-old Murphy, a two-time Olympian and one of the leaders for USA Swimming, began dating Konttinen while both were students and athletes at the University of California-Berkeley. While Murphy starred in the pool, Konttinen excelled on top of the water as a rower. Cal’s rowing program, like the Golden Bears in swimming, is among the finest in the country.

Murphy is preparing to represent the United States at next month’s World Championships in Budapest. The world-record holder in the 100-meter backstroke, Murphy will swim that event, along with the 200 backstroke. He was the Olympic champion in both events at the 2016 Games in Rio de Janeiro, and added bronze in the 100 back and silver in the 200 back at last summer’s Olympics in Tokyo. Murphy is chasing his first individual world crown.
