Ohio State Invitational Day 1: Buckeye Lead Women’s Meet; Indiana Men Lead

The 2021 Ohio State Invitational kicked off on Thursday from Columbus.

The meet will run through Saturday and has several teams from across the country competing at Ohio State.

The host Buckeyes lead the women’s meet after day one with 579.5 points. Indiana is second (548), followed by Kentucky (499.5), UCLA (436.5), Notre Dame (323.5), Virginia Tech (314), Navy (216), Pitt (186), Miami (80) and Cincinnati (64).

Ohio State won the women’s 200 free relay with Katherine Zenick, Amy Fulmer, Emily Crane and Teresa Ivan winning in 1:27.99, finishing ahead of Indiana (1:28.88).

Crane, Josie Panitz, Zenick and Fulmer won the 400 medley relay (3:30.23) ahead of Indiana (3:33.41).

Ohio State’s Sally Tafuto won the 500 freestyle in 4:40.49, ahead of Indiana’s Mariah Denigan (4:41.21).

Indiana’s Mackenzie Looze won the 200 IM in 1:56.14, going 1-2 with teammate Noelle Peplowski (1:56.80), ahead of Kentucky’s Bailey Bonnett (1:57.19).

Indiana’s Ashley Turak won the 50 free in 22.21, ahead of Zenick (22.23) and Fulmer (22.24).

In the men’s meet, Indiana leads with 919.5 points, followed by Ohio State (668.5), Virginia Tech (483), Notre Dame (467.5), Kentucky (371), Pitt (291.5), Cincinnati (234), Miami (55), Kenyon (16) and Navy (2).

Indiana’s Bruno Blaskovic, Rafael Miroslaw, Gabriel Fantoni and Jack Franzman won the 200 free relay in 1:16.63, finishing ahead of Virginia Tech (1:17.43).

Indiana’s Michael Brinegar won the 500 free in 4:16.82, ahead if Indiana’s Mikey Calvillo (4:18.13).

Virginia Tech’s Carles Coll Marti won the 200 IM in 1:43.44, ahead of Indiana’s Jacob Steele (1:44.87). Virginia Tech’s Youssef Ramadan won the 50 free in 19.28, ahead of Blaskovic (19.28) and Hunter Armstrong (19.37).

Indiana’s Brendan Burns, Van Mathias, Fantoni and Miroslaw won the 400 medley relay (3:04.05), ahead of Ohio State (3:06.88).

The Ohio State Invitational will continue with Day 2 on Friday.
