The wave of swimmers headed to train with Bob Bowman at Arizona State continues to grow. Former Michigan All-American and Team USA distance freestyler Sierra Schmidt announced her move to Arizona State on Tuesday.

She was the third Team USA swimmer to announced the move to join Bowman on a busy Tuesday as Regan Smith announced she was turning pro and joining the ASU pro group, shortly before Olympic gold medalist Chase Kalisz made the same move.

Super excited to announce that I will be joining the @sundevilswimdive Pro Group under @coach_bowman! I’m so grateful for this opportunity to swim for Coach Bowman once again, and work with some of the best swimmers in the world! I would like to thank @scottsdaleswim for everything they have done for me this year, and to congratulate @josephschmidt9312 on his retirement from coaching! On to another step in this crazy adventure of mine! #dancingqueen #arizonastatesundevils #AlwaysInFront,” Sierra Schmidt posted on Instagram.

Sierra Schmidt joins a growing pro group that includes Hali Flickinger, Olivia Smoliga, Leon Marchand, while unconfirmed reports have Jay Litherland joining the group. Plus Allison Schmitt is not officially retired either. It is quite a group.

Known for her dance moves behind the blocks, Schmidt has been a Team USA member five times and was a multi-All-American swimmer at the University of Michigan. She was a gold medalist at the World Junior Championships, Pan American Games and Junior Pan Pacific Games during her national team stints.

She graduated from Michigan in 2021 and moved back to her hometown of Scottdale, Arizona. She trained with her father and made the top eight in the 400 freestyle, 1500 freestyle and 800 freestyle (6-7-8 respectively) at the U.S. Olympic Swimming Trials. Then she joined her hometown Scottsdale Aquatic Club and finished eighth in the 1500 at the U.S. International Team Trials earlier this year.

Now, Sierra Schmidt is staying in Arizona, but joining the ever-growing pro team at Arizona State.
