NCAA Releases Division I Champs Qualifying Times; Speed For A Cuts is Eye-Popping

The NCAA has released its qualifying times for the upcoming 2022-23 Division I season and the speed necessary to nail down an A Standard is eye-popping, and beyond in some events. Take the men’s 50-yard freestyle, for example. The new A Standard in the sprint event is 18.88, which is nearly a second faster than the B Standard of 19.82. As for the women, it will require 58.10 in the 100 breaststroke to pick up an automatic bid.

With the next season rapidly approaching, the University of Virginia will enter the campaign as the two-time defending NCAA champ on the women’s side, and the Cavaliers feature another stacked roster that will try to make it a three-peat for coach Todd DeSorbo. On the men’s side, Cal and coach Dave Durden unseated Texas at last year’s NCAA Championships and the Golden Bears and Longhorns are again expected to battle for the team title, a scenario which has been the theme for the past decade.

This year’s edition of the Women’s Championships will be held from March 15-18 at the University of Tennessee while the NCAA Men’s Champs will be held from March 22-25 at the University of Minnesota.
