NEW COMMIT: The University of Alabama has scored another verbal commitment for its growing Class of 2027 from Junior National qualifier Ella Menear of Greensboro, Pennsylvania.

She will join Jada Scott, Gaby van Brunt, Laurel Blase and Sydney Blackhurst in Tuscaloosa at the start of the 2023-24 season.

Regarding her commitment, she said:

“I chose Alabama because of the family-like culture and relationships I quickly established there. The coaching staff, along with the team are so welcoming and approachable. Alabama also offers some of the best opportunities both in and out of the pool. I can’t  wait to spend the next four at this beautiful campus.”

Menear does her club swimming with Club Mountaineer Aquatics and raced three events at Juniors East in December where her highest finish was a 25th-place showing in the 100 back. Last summer, she raced to ninth in the 100m back and 18th in the 200m back at Richmond Futures.

Her best times include:

  • 50 free- 23.92
  • 100 free- 51.77
  • 100 back- 53.37
  • 200 back- 1:59.53
  • 200 IM- 2:00.50

A rising senior at Mapletown Junior Senior High School, Menear won the 200 IM and was the runner-up in the 100 back at the 2022 Pennsylvania 2A State Championships. In 2021, she earned gold in the 100 back and bronze in the 200 IM.

At the 2022 SEC Championships, Alabama finished third before taking fourth at the NCAA Championships, which was the best finish in program history.
