Ella Epes, Kiera Liesinger Will Arrive in Storrs in 2022, Both Commit to UConn

NEW COMMITS: The University of Connecticut has two new additions to their lineup for the fall of 2022: Newport News, Va. native Ella Epes and Kiera Liesinger of Eagan, Minn.

Both talented swimmers will join Alexis Martino, Paige Spencer and Hannah Jyawook in Storrs as a member of the Huskies’ Class of 2026.

Beginning on July 1, 2020, the Huskies returned to the Big East Conference. UConn is led by head coach Christopher Maiello.

ELLA EPES

Regarding her commitment, she said:

“I chose UConn because the coaches and team are extremely supportive, and I know that their strong training program will help me to achieve my goals.”

Epes does her club swimming with 757 Swim and flew to 17th in the 100 fly at Virginia Seniors in March after taking seventh in that event in 2020. She earned a best time at Geneva Futures in 2019 after a strong showing at Virginia LCM Seniors, too.

Her best times include:

  • 100 fly – 55.40
  • 200 fly – 2:04.49
  • 50 free – 23.85
  • 100 free – 52.56
  • 50 back – 27.59
  • 100 back – 58.98
  • 200 back – 2:08.81

Also competing for Tabb High School, Epes is a four-time Virginia 3A State Championship finalist. She placed fourth in the 100 fly and fifth in the 50 free as a junior while taking fifth in the 50 free and seventh in the 100 back during her sophomore season. 

KIERA LIESINGER

Regarding her commitment, she said:

“SO excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my athletic and academic career uconn !! I’m extremely grateful to my family, friends, and coaches who have supported me through this process. Also, huge thanks to the coaching staff at UConn for the opportunity to swim with an amazing group of women. ?? #proudtobeahusky #uconnbound”

Liesinger, who trains year-round with Riptide, most recently placed 11th in the 200m breast at the 18&U Cup in Des Moines in April after recording five best times at Indianapolis Sectionals in March. She was also the 200 breast champion at Minnesota Seniors in 2020.

Her best times include:

  • 100 breast – 1:03.51
  • 200 breast – 2:15.77
  • 200 IM – 2:07.96
  • 400 IM – 4:34.47

A rising senior at Eagan High School, Liesinger raced to eighth in the 100 breast as a freshman at the Minnesota AA State Championships. As a junior, she won both the 100 breast and 200 IM at the 3A sectional meet.
