Bella Cothern, Reka Rohacs Lead Arkansas Past Kansas
Bella Cothern and Reka Rohacs won a pair of races apiece as Arkansas topped Kansas, 171-128, in a nonconference dual meet Friday afternoon in Fayetteville.
Cothern clocked in at 22.78 seconds to win the 50 freestyle by nearly a second. She added a winning time of 53.92 in the 100 butterfly and swam fly on the Razorbacks’ winning 200 medley relay.
Rohacs got the meet started by going 9:59.59 to win the 1,000 freestyle, then won the 500 free late in the meet. Teammate Sydney Craft was second in both.
Rebecca Simpson made it three wins on the trot by taking the 200 freestyle for Arkansas. Bradi Jones, the breaststroke swimmer in the medley relay, won the 100 breast, and Eleonora Camisa followed by capturing the 200 fly. Out of the diving break, Delaney Harrison went 51.03 to take the 100 free, one of four 51s in the race.
Harrison anchored the medley relay win and led off the 400 free relay victory, anchored by Craft. Gracie Colvin was on both teams. Holly Robinson rounded out the Arkansas winners by capturing the 200 individual medley after having finished second in the 200 back.
Diving brought a pair of tight battles. Kansas’ Shiyun Lai won 3-meter with a score of 340.05, barely six points ahead of Arkansas’s Maria Jose Sanchez. Sanchez avenged that on 1-meter with a score of 315.90, this time six points ahead of Lai.
Kansas managed a backstroke sweep. Lezli Sisung went 54.56 to win the 100. The Jayhawks had to wait for a second swimming event win until Bradie Ward went 1:59.35 in the 200. Ryan Johnston followed with a win in the 200 breast.
