Alex Townsend Pledges 2025 Verbal To Princeton
NEW COMMIT: U.S. Open qualifier Alex Townsend of Raleigh, North Carolina, has pledged his verbal commitment* to continue his academic and swimming career at Princeton University beginning in Fall 2025.
He will join Jiarui Xue and Oliver Rowe as a member of the Tigers’s Class of 2029.
Regarding his commitment, he said:
“I’m extremely excited and honored to announce my commitment to the admissions process at Princeton University! I’m thrilled for the chance to spend four years at a school with not only world class academics and athletics, but also an amazing team and school culture! Thank you Coach Matt and Coach Mia for believing in me and giving me this opportunity. I’d also like to thank my family, teammates, and all my coaches for their support and guidance over the years. Go Tigers!”
Townsend does his club swimming with Marlins of Raleigh and won the 200 IM at North Carolina Seniors back in February before going on to collect bronze in the 200m IM at ESSZ Speedo Spring Championships the following month. Last summer, he finaled in the 200m breast at Ocala Futures.
His best times include:
- 200 IM – 1:48.58
- 100 fly – 48.19
- 200 fly – 1:48.72
- 100 breast – 56.29
- 200 breast – 2:00.98
Townsend is a rising senior at William G. Enloe High School where he has earned USA Swimming Scholastic All-American and NISCA All-American honors. He’s the school record holder in the 100 fly, 100 breast and 4×50 medley relay.
This past season, he earned silver in the 100 fly and took seventh in the 100 breast at the 2024 North Carolina 4A State Championships.
