After Battling Stomach Bug, Regan Smith Gets In 100 Freestyle On Final Day Of TYR Pro Series

Regan Smith came down with a stomach bug that accounted for her absence from Thursday’s finals and Friday’s full schedule at the TYR Pro Swim Series in Knoxville. However, Smith returned to the deck to get in the 100 freestyle on Saturday morning. In the prelims of the event, she posted the 13th-fastest time of the session, going 55.88.

Smith revealed her illness through her Instagram account. She said she, “came down with a stomach bug/food poisoning after prelims yesterday (Thursday).”

Smith was the third seed out of prelims Thursday morning in the women’s 200 freestyle before scratching out of the evening finals Thursday. The Olympian representing Sun Devil Swimming had also finished second in prelims of the 50 backstroke on Thursday morning before likewise bowing out of that final. She opted to bypass the entire Friday schedule while recovering.

While Smith took on the 100 freestyle on Saturday, she was measured in her approach to the meet. She scratched out of the 200 individual medley, where she was 2:10 late last year at the U.S. Open.
