NEW COMMIT: Breaststroker Maggie Kleinsmith of Mount Kisco, N.Y. has announced her verbal commitment to Villanova and will join the class of 2023.

Kleinsmith does her club swimming with BGC-N Westchester Marlins under head coach Zachary Hojnacki and is a Nationals qualifier in the 100 breast. She was the 100m breast champion at NCSAs this summer in addition to placing fourth in the 50m breast and 10th in the 200m breast. She also was a two-time finalist a NCSAs in March. Kleinsmith has represented Fox Lane at the New York Federation Championships each of her high school seasons so far, placing 13th in the 100 breast as a junior.

She told Swimming World:

“I choose Villanova because of the incredible academics and athletics! I think it’s the perfect place to continue my career as a student athlete. I’m super excited to spend these next 4 years as a wildcat!!!”

Her best times include:

  • 50 breast – 29.26
  • 100 breast – 1:02.80
  • 200 breast – 2:17.96

Kleinsmith’s best 100 breast time would’ve ranked second on the Wildcats’ lineup last season while her fastest 200 breast would’ve sat in third. She would’ve scored in the A-final of both breaststroke events at last season’s Big East Championships, where Villanova won their fifth-straight conference crown.
