NEW COMMIT: Ethan Knorr of Salisbury, North Carolina, will stay in state for college. The Salisbury High School senior has verbally committed to East Carolina University. A USA Swimming Scholastic All-American, Knorr swims year round for the Greensboro Community YMCA.

Knorr is an IMer and distance freestyler. He’s solid in each of the 200s of stroke. His best times include:

  • 400 IM 3:59.26
  • 200 IM 1:53.83
  • 1650 Free 15:46.92
  • 1000 Free 9:35.70
  • 500 Free 4:33.98
  • 200 Back 1:51.21
  • 200 Fly 1:55.75
  • 200 Breast 2:12.07

Knorr had a breakout junior season. At the December Capital Classic meet he posted best times in the 400 IM, 200 fly, 200 breast, 1000, and 1650. At North Carolina 1A2A High School states in February Knorr dropped a lifetime best 200 IM and 500 free en route to winning both events. His 500 freestyle time was a new 1A2A state record. Knorr then lowered his best 200 back time just a week later at NC Senior Champs.

This summer, Knorr continued to improve. At YMCA Nationals he posted lifetime best times in the 200 back (2:06.81), 400 IM (4:33.37), 1500 free (16:12.72), 800 free (8:34.39), 400 free (4:09.25), and 200 fly (2:08.50).

The East Carolina men are the defending American Athletic Conference Champions. At last year’s meet Knorr would have landed in the 500 free and 400 IM B final and finished ninth in the 1650.

Knorr said of his decision,

“I chose ECU because of its strong academics, great swim team and location. I loved the campus and felt at home with the Team immediately. Go Pirates”

North Carolina native Hunter Pigg has also verbally committed to the Pirates’ Class of 2022.
