Missouri State Clinches Men’s MAC Championship Title

After taking second by one point last year, Missouri State redeemed themselves this year by winning the 2018 Men’s MAC Conference league crown. The Bears finished with 857.5 points for their 20^th overall team title.

Eastern Michigan took second with 807 points, followed by Miami Ohio (740), Southern Illinois (476.5), Evansville (203) and Ball State (190).

Men’s 1650 Free

For the second straight year, Missouri State’s Antonio Thomas was named champion in the mile. The sophomore, who also won the 500 earlier this weekend, finished with a final time of 15:09.84. He is still the current MAC record holder with his 14:56.02 swum last year at this meet.

His teammate Minki Kang finished second in 15:15.13 and Southern Illinois Kevin Kluge took third in 15:20.33.

Southern Illinois Michael Wolfe (15:24.53), Missouri State’s Kevin Douglas (15:35.41), Southern Illinois’ Christopher Cole (15:36.41), Miami Ohio’s Austin Theobald (15:37.98) and Miami Ohio’s James McGuire (15:48.84) completed the top eight.

Men’s 200 Back

Eastern Michigan’s Tosh Kawaguchi won the 200 back for the second-straight year, taking first by nearly two seconds. The junior stopped the clock in 1:44.54 to complete his backstroke sweep.

His teammate Matan Segal finished second in 1:44.54 and Southern Illinois Alex Crawford was third in 1:46.19.

Miami Ohio’s James Wray (1:46.24), Miami Ohio’s Justin Andrews (1:46.72), Missouri State’s Will Frisbie (1:46.81), Eastern Michigan’s Ricky Perez (1:47.06) and Missouri State’s Conner Ripp (1:48.00) rounded out the A-final.

Men’s 100 Free

Eastern Michigan freshman Carter Swift cruised to victory in the 100 free, stopping the clock in a quick 43.90. This is his second individual MAC title after winning the 200 free earlier this weekend.

His teammate Jake Tyson finished second in 44.23 and Missouri State’s Lucas Paloschi took third in 44.24.

Miami Ohio’s Diego Valentim (44.71), Missouri State’s Samuel Senn (44.81), Miami Ohio’s Nick Ward (44.84), Miami Ohio’s Ross Westrick (44.96) and Missouri State’s Will Brand (45.83) also swam in the fastest heat.

Men’s 200 Breast

After finishing seventh in this event in 2017, Miami Ohio’s Hutch Blackstone got his hands to the wall first in the 200 breast. The senior won gold in a time of 1:55.24.

Missouri State teammates Artur Osvath grabbed the silver in 1:55.29 and Blair Bish took bronze in 1:56.29.

Missouri State’s Christopher Heye (1:56.76), Eastern Michigan’s Ben Gingher (1:59.39), Eastern Michigan’s Matthew Tsenkov (1:59.66), Missouri State’s Nicholas Theunissen (1:59.66) and Southern Illinois’ Chris Phillips (1:59.72) rounded out the A-finalists.

Men’s 200 Fly

Eastern Michigan’s Parker Saladin dropped nearly four seconds from his entry time to win the final individual swimming event of the weekend. The sophomore won with a final time of 1:45.48.

Miami Ohio’s Iago Moussalem do Amaral touched the wall second in 1:45.73 and Missouri State’s Kacper Cwiek finished third in 1:46.71.

Missouri State’s Phillip Willett (1:47.39), Miami Ohio’s Kayky Mota (1:47.41), Eastern Michigan’s Logan Burton (1:47.70), Miami Ohio’s Spencer Klinsky (1:48.17) and Southern Illinois’ Michael Wolfe (1:50.12) also swam in the A-final.

Men’s 3-Meter Diving

Eastern Michigan swept the podium in the 3-meter diving, led by Al’x Pierre dove to first in the 3-meter diving with a total score of 304.85. This is the freshman’s second win of the meet after sweeping both diving events.

His teammates Thomas Gillis took second in 330.65 and Noah Galluzzo finished third with 329.35 points.

Miami Ohio’s Harrison Moncino (326.85), Eastern Michigan’s Peter Rusenas (319.55), Miami Ohio’s Ryan Nash (296.20), Southern Illinois’ Kai Hoffman-Dussome (283.00) and Missouri State’s Michael Claunch (269.40) also dove in the A-final.

Men’s 4×100 Free Relay

Eastern Michigan’s Swift (43.65), Alec Hoch (45.24), Kawaguchi (44.99) and Tyson (43.50) cruised to first in the meet’s final event with a time of 2:57.38. Miami Ohio finished a close second in 2:57.44 and Missouri State was third in 2:57.51.
