Michael Brinegar Wins 10K At FINA World Junior Open Water Swimming Championship

The FINA World Junior Open Water Swimming Championships continued with the women’s 18-19 10K race as well as the men’s 18-19 10K.

In the men’s 18-19 age group 10K, U.S. swimmer Michael Brinegar won the gold in 1:49:55.5 barely holding off Enzo Roldan Munoz of France, who was second in 1:49:55.7.

Kirill Dolgov of Russia wasn’t far behind, winning the bronze in 1:50:00.04.

In the women’s 18-19 age group 10K, Paula Ruiz Bravo of Spain took the gold medal in one hour and 57 minutes and 21.9 seconds. Maria Bramont-Arias of Peru was second in 1:57:24.2 and Reka Romacs of Hungary was third in 1:57:26.3.

U.S. swimmers Erica Sullivan (1:57.44.6) and Kensey McMahon (1:57.47.4) were fifth and sixth, respectively.

Canada’s Kate Sanderson took eighth spot in the women’s 18-19 age group.

“It was good, I had fun and I learned a lot,” the U.S. based Sanderson told Swimming Canada. “It was an aggressive race which put me in a lot of tactical situations. I know now I can compete at this level and handle that much pain in a race.”

Competition ends Saturday with the team relays.
