Lia Neal Excels As Art Adamson Invite Wraps Up

Lia Neal is on a roll.

After three victories on Friday night, the Stanford junior picked up an individual win in the 100-yard freestyle on Saturday, the last night of the Art Adamson Invitational. Neal earned an NCAA ‘A’ time standard in the event, posting a time of 47.76. She was also a member of Stanford’s winning 400-yard freestyle relay.

Sunday’s finals started in the afternoon with the 1650-yard freestyle event. Sarah Gibson of Texas A&M won the women’s event with a time of 16:16.92. Utah’s Bence Kiraly brought home the men’s win with a time of 14:50.19.

Janet Hu earned Stanford’s first win of the day. Hu went a 1:52.17 in the 200-yard backstroke to win the event by nearly two seconds. On the men’s side, LSU freshman Thomas Smith won the event in 1:42.77.

After Neal’s victory in the women’s 100-yard freestyle, Arizona State’s Tudas Duskinas won the men’s event with a 43.50.

The Stanford women picked up another victory in the 200-yard breaststroke. Sarah Haase won the race for the Cardinals in 2:07.64. She won by over half a second. Mauro Castilla of Texas A&M won the men’s event with a time of 1:55.11.

Stanford freshman Ella Eastin picked up another ‘A’ time standard in the 200-yard butterfly. Eastin won the event by over two seconds with a time of 1:53.34. Patrick Park won the men’s event for Arizona State with a time of 1:44.72.

Neal helped lead Stanford to an ‘A’ cut in the 400-yard freestyle relay. The team consisted of Hu, Julia Ama, Lindsey Engel and Neal. The Cardinals finished with a time of 3:13.64. Arizona State won the men’s event in 2:54.84.

On the men’s side, the Utah Utes won the meet with 838 points. They were followed by Texas A&M and Air Force.

Texas A&M won the women’s event with 1,166 points. The Aggies were followed by Stanford and LSU.
