NEW COMMIT: The University of Kentucky has added a new commitment from John Broome of Greer, South Carolina, who will arrive in Lexington at the start of the 2022-23 season.

He will join Phillip Khenner, Sean MackeyDrew JohnsonKevin GlennonLevi SandidgeRyan MeraniBrady McInerneyLogan Smith and Logan Ingerick as a member of the Wildcats’ Class of 2026.

His best times include:

  • 100 breast – 55.18
  • 200 breast – 2:01.75
  • 200 IM – 1:52.36
  • 400 IM – 4:02.70

Primarily a breaststroker, Broome trains year-round with Y-Spartaquatics Swim Club and earned bronze in the 100 breast at YMCA Short Course Nationals last month, also placing eighth in the 200 breast. Last December, he raced to 24th in the 100 breast at Juniors East.

Broome is currently a senior at Riverside High School. He won both the 100 breast and 200 IM at the South Carolina State Championships during his junior season.

He’s a great pickup for the Wildcats as he would’ve been their fastest 100 breaststroker and ranked third on the team in the 200 breast.
