NEW COMMIT: High school junior and Muskego, Wis. native Kaylyn Schoof has announced her in-state verbal commitment to the University of Wisconsin – Madison for the fall of 2020.

Schoof swims year-round with Elmbrook Swim Club and owns four U.S. Open standards with the Winter Juniors cut (or faster) in five additional events. She most recently competed at NCSAs this past summer where she finaled in 10 events with top-25 finishes in all of them. She had six top-8 finishes at Iowa City Speedo Sectionals in July and recorded eight top-10 finishes at NCSAs in March. Schoof has also won 10 events over the past three seasons at the Wisconsin SCY State Championships.

She told Swimming World:

“Wisconsin is where I feel at home. They not only have a great academic program but an amazing swim program as well. Right as I stepped on campus I felt like that was where I saw myself in the future. Being a badger was always a dream of mine, and I’m so excited to live out those dreams. Overall I’m super excited for what my future holds at the University of Wisconsin. Go Badgers!”

Her best times include:

  • 100 back – 53.64
  • 200 back – 1:56.46
  • 100 fly – 53.63
  • 200 fly – 1:58.44
  • 200 IM – 2:00.28
  • 400 IM – 4:14.61
  • 50 free – 23.39
  • 100 free – 50.95
  • 200 free – 1:49.43

Schoof will make an immediate impact when she suits up for the Badgers at the start of the 2020-21 season. Even with 1.5 years of club swimming still to go before arriving in Madison, she would’ve scored in the B-final of the 100 fly, 200 fly, 200 back and 400 IM as well as the C-final of the 100 back at the 2018 Big Ten Championships.

How can someone commit to do anything five years away? Really, Wisconsin should find talented athletes who are ready to compete now. All colleges should stop trying to recruit children. What happened to the days she college swim coaches couldn’t even talk to an athlete until after They completed their junior year of high school. You know when the athlete is more mature and the pressure to be star athletes might be based in reality
