Kalyn Keller’s Open Water World Championship Diary

(This is the latest entry in Kalyn Keller's diary from the First FINA Open Water World Championships, being held in Honolulu Hawaii. Keller, 15, is the US champion in the 5K swim.)

HONOLULU, October 30.
The day before my race.

I am so excited! This entry won't be too long; I gotta catch up on my zzzz's!

Today is one day closer to the race. I am getting a little anxious and nervous, but its all for the good. The 5Kers had some media interviews today and then we went over the course for the millionth time. That's fine with me: the more the better!

Annie Stein (the second US entrant in the 5K) and I also found out that we aren't allowed to have fingernails past our skin… which isn't to great for us, seeing that she got her nails done especially for this event, and I have had mine since Olympic Trials! So we had a mourning nail cutting and repainting session tonite! SO SAD! At least we wont be getting killed by people with longer nails than us!

We had dinner at the mall and then some of us went around to walk around the mall. For some reason we all felt silly and bought some rabbit noses to wear… they are great!

Hopefully tommorrow we can get our Trick or Treating in! But for now, it's all about tricking the other countries and treating ourselves to some medals!

The US team is excited for the swimming to get going, and we have set our sights on the team trophy! So, talk to you later! Have fun on Halloween! I know I will!

Aloha and Mahalo!
