Jim Ritter of the Columbus Sharks Masters Team out of Columbus, Ohio set a new Masters World Record in the 60-64 LCM 400 Free on June 17 with a time of 4:37.58.

The swim, set at Miami University (Ohio), makes Ritter the first man over the age of 60 to ever break the 4:40 barrier as the previous mark of 4:40.00 was set by Jim McConica of the Ventura County Masters.

Ritter’s 400 this weekend sets his third USMS National Record. He currently holds the USMS records in the 60-64 LCM 200 free (2:09.08) and the SCM 400 free (4:34.24) as well.

He is a six-time USMS All-American, earning his first title in 2001 in the 45-49 400 free. He also earned USMS All-Star honors in 2016.

But this was not the first World Record for the Ritter family. Jim’s son, Adam Ritter, set a 25-29 200 free record of 1:46.52 in 2013. Ritter won the 200 IM at the 2007 NCAA Men’s Swimming & Diving Championships for the University of Arizona.

The correct name of the school is Miami University not University of Miami. Congratulations Jim!
