ISL Grand Final: Cali Condors Ready to Turn to Caeleb Dressel For Butterfly Skins (Day Two Start Lists)

The final day of the International Swimming League’s third season has arrived and, barring a stunning turn of events, Energy Standard or the Cali Condors will be crowned champion in Eindhoven. Energy Standard won the inaugural team title while the Cali Condors stormed to last year’s championship. This year marks the third time that the four finalists are the same, with the London Roar and L.A. Current also in the title match.

Energy Standard carries a 21-point lead into the second day of competition after scoring 271 points on Day One. The Cali Condors sit in second place with 250 points, their total hurt by a controversial disqualification of the franchise’s women’s 400 medley relay. Officials cited Lilly King for a non-simultaneous touch on the breaststroke leg, a decision that drastically shifted the standings.

Team Scores Through Day One:

Energy Standard 271
Cali Condors 250
London Roar 206
LA Current 171

Day One Coverage

The Condors are once again being judicious about their use of Caeleb Dressel, as the Olympic champion will not contest the opening event of the Day Two schedule, the 100 freestyle. That event will feature the London Roar’s Kyle Chalmers, the world-record holder and runnerup to Dressel at the Olympic Games last summer in Tokyo. Dressel will see duty in the 100 individual medley, mixed medley relay and 50 butterfly Skins, where his presence could significantly influence a tight match.

While the men will contest the 50 butterfly for Skins, the women will battle in the 50 backstroke. London is again without standout Kira Toussaint, who has been sidelined by illness.

Here is a look at the Day Two Start Lists.
