Former Bloomsburg University (PA) assistant coach and swimmer Jim Carlin was remembered last Friday at Bloomsburg University’s Nelson Fieldhouse as the Huskies swam against the Dickinson Red Devils. Carlin, 67, passed away October 22. The meet, now recognized as the Jim Carlin Memorial Swim Meet, was organized as a tribute by Bloomsburg head coach Stu Marvin and assistant coach Bridget Hilferty. Members of Dickinson’s team also have ties with Bloomsburg’s team and traditions. Dickinson head coach Paul Richards and assistant Alison Bradway swam for the BU, graduating in 1975 and 2014, respectively.

The Bloomsburg men defeated Dickinson 108-86, leading the meet off with a 200-yard medley relay victory in 1:35.18. The Huskies were led by Ryan Paisley and Jake Harner, who swam the fastest times in the PSAC this season in the 100 fly and 100 breast, respectively. The men turned around the following day to defeat Gannon University 117-85.

The women’s team followed suit, beating Dickinson 112-82. Their 200-yard medley relay set the tone for the meet, swimming the fastest PSAC time this season with a 1:50.12. Caroline Hodgins powered her way to the top of the conference with a 10:40.70 in the 1000 free, continuing the Huskies’ surge.

The women won the next day against Millersville University (139-56) and Gannon (125-77) in a tri-meet.

Carlin is survived by his wife, two sons, two daughters, a brother, two sisters, three grandsons, three nieces, and two nephews.
