Florida Gators Pick Up In-State Verbal From Lucas Kravchenko

NEW COMMIT: Cape Canaveral, Fla. native Lucas Kravchenko has announced his verbal commitment to stay in-state and swim for the Gators as a member of the class of 2023.

Kravchenko does his club swimming with CBS Islanders where he is a five-time Junior National qualifier. He concluded the long course season with a best time in the 200m free (1:54.89) at Futures in Cary and is a six-time individual champion at the Florida Senior SCY Championships over the past three seasons.

Kravchenko also swims for Merritt Island High School and is a six-time finalist at the FHSAA State Championships. At the 2017 2A State meet, the NISCA All-American finished first in the 100 back (49.43) and was the runner-up in the 200 free (1:39.08) as a junior.

Short and sweet, he told Swimming World:

“I got a taste of the Gator standard, and that’s the kind of excellence I want to be a part of.”

His best times include:

  • 50 free – 20.76
  • 100 free – 45.82
  • 200 free – 1:39.08
  • 100 back – 49.32
  • 200 back – 1:49.81
  • 100 fly – 50.82

Kravchenko will join a talented sprint group when he arrives on campus for the 2019-20 season that includes top returners Jack Szaranek, Khader Baqlah and Maxime Rooney. Florida was the 2018 SEC champions and finished fifth at NCAAs last season.
