Flash! Libby Lenton Smashes 100 Freestyle World Record at Duel in the Pool; U.S. Claims 181.5-129.5 Win Over Australia

SYDNEY, Australia, April 3. DURING the mixed relay in the Duel in the Pool between Australia and the United States, Libby Lenton smashed the 100-meter freestyle record for the women in the leadoff leg according to media reports out of Australia.

Lenton clocked a 52.99 while swimming against Michael Phelps in the event.

Some questions have been raised as to whether the world record will be ratified by FINA since it came during a mixed relay. Regardless, Lenton still crushed the 53.30 set by Britta Steffen of Germany at the European Championships in Budapest last summer.

Meanwhile, the United States ran its record to 3-0 with a 181.5-129.5 win over Australia in the Duel in the Pool series.
