FINA Confirms New Dates for World Masters Championships in 2023

FINA this week announced new dates for the 19th FINA World Masters Championships, which has originally been slated for the summer of 2022.

The new dates for the meet in Kyushu, Japan are from Aug. 2-11, 2023. They had originally been scheduled for May 31-June 9, 2020, split between the Japanese cities of Fukuoka, Kumamoto and Kagoshima. The postponement of the 2023 World Championships (before its “extraordinary” unpostponement) necessitated moving the FINA Masters event, as well. The meet is anticipated to draw some 10,000 athletes from more than 100 countries.

“The decision to reschedule the 19th FINA World Masters Championships 2022 has been jointly taken with the Fukuoka 2022 Organising Committee and relevant parties,” FINA President Husain Al-Musallam said in a press release. “Following the postponement of the 19th FINA World Championships 2022 Fukuoka, we believe that this is the best solution for the athletes, officials, fans and everyone involved. Hosting the 19th FINA World Masters Championships 2022 across the three beautiful cities of Fukuoka, Kumamoto and Kagoshima will provide a fantastic opportunity to inspire the next generation of aquatics stars in Japan and around the world.”

The UANA Pan America Masters Championships have also found new dates. Those will fill the void in the summer of 2022, falling from July 21-28. They will be hosted in Medellin, Colombia. Registration for that meet is open as of Feb. 1.
