NEW COMMIT: Liberty University has just gained a new verbal commitment from Boise, Idaho native Eva Suggs who will join the Lady Flames as part of the class of 2023.

Suggs does her club swimming with the Boise YMCA and is a three-time Winter Juniors qualifier. She just wrapped up a successful long course season at the USA Swimming Futures Championship in Santa Clara, recording a runner-up finish in the 100m back (1:04.51) to earn her first Winter Nationals cut.

A senior at Timberline High School, Suggs competed at the 2017 Winter Junior National Championships West and was a finalist in the 200 back (1:59.73). At YMCA Short Course Nationals this past April, the USA Swimming Scholastic All-American was a five-time finalist and also finished eighth in the 100 free (50.76) in 2017.

She told Swimming World:

“I am excited to announce my verbal commitment to Liberty University! Once I went on Liberty’s recruiting trip, I knew that I wanted to spend my next 4 years in Lynchburg, VA. Liberty University believes in developing Christ-centered men and women with the values, knowledge, and skills in order to impact the world. They put God as the foundation for their academics, athletics and campus life. Once I saw that Liberty is not just Christian in name, but Christian at heart, I knew that it was the place for me. Liberty’s Swimming and Diving program trains to be the best in every way and gives God all of the Glory. I am excited to become a Lady Flame and represent such an extraordinary, humble and blessed college.”

Her best times include:

  • 50 free – 24.40
  • 100 free – 50.01
  • 200 free – 1:50.20
  • 500 free – 4:59.70
  • 1000 free – 10:24.92
  • 100 back – 55.95
  • 200 back – 1:58.75

Suggs will provide more depth to Liberty’s freestyle group when she arrives on campus in the fall of 2019. Both her fastest 100 and 200 free times would’ve been fourth on the Lady Flames’ lineup last season. She’ll have one year of overlap with top returning sprinter Hannah Baker who finished third in the 200 free at the 2018 CCSA Championships. She’ll also have two years to train with Emily Manly and Payton Keiner.
