European Champion Hubert Kos To Join Elite IM Group At Arizona State

Hubert Kos

NEW COMMIT: The rich got a richer.

Translation: Bob Bowman is bringing in another world-class IMer to Arizona State.

Beginning in January 2023, Hubert Kos will be arriving in Tempe, adding even more depth to an already-loaded IM training group.

Regarding his commitment, he said:

“I am honored to announce my verbal commitment to Arizona State University! Can’t wait to join the Sun Devils in January??”

A native of Hungary, Kos most recently earned gold by just one-tenth in the 200m IM at the European Championships, also placing fourth in the 400m IM, fourth in the 100m fly and eighth in the 200m back.

His lifetime best of 1:56.99 in the 200m IM is still the current world junior record.

Back in June, he finished sixth in the 200m IM at the FINA World Championships. Kos raced the 20m IM at the Tokyo Olympic Games, finish 19th overall.

In LCM, his best times include:

  • 200 IM – 1:56.99
  • 400 IM – 4:13.50
  • 200 back – 1:57.64
  • 100 fly – 51.33
  • 200 fly – 1:57.21

In SCY, those times convert to:

  • 200 IM – 1:39.74
  • 400 IM – 3:37.14
  • 200 back – 1:38.42
  • 100 fly – 44.55
  • 200 fly – 1:41.58

Kos’ top times (converted to yards) are already fast enough to score in the A-final at the NCAA Championships in the 100 fly, 200 IM, 200 back and 400 IM while he would’ve scored in the B-final of the 200 fly.

Bowman’s IM specialists also include Leon MarchandChase Kalisz and Jay Litherland, among others.

ASU is going to be a team to watch this year. While they do not have the depth to make the top at NCAAs, They should score several firsts and score well, they may be a “spoiler” in the sense of gathering points other teams hoped to score.
