Ella Eastin, swimming for Crean Lutheran at the CIF Southern Section Division 2 Championships, smashed her national independent school record in the 200-yard IM during finals.

Eastin hit the wall in 1:53.90 for the record, crushing the 1:55.15 she set back in 2013.

Eastin nearly downed the epic 1:53.82 set by Minot’s Dagny Knutson back in 2009, and could take a run at the record again during the California State High School Championships later this month.

The record swim puts her 13th all time in the event, just edging ahead of Maggie Bowen’s 1:53.91 from 2002 and behind Celina Li’s 1:53.85 for California at the 2014 NCAA Championships.

Eastin split the race 24.98, 53.28 (28,30), 1:26.17 (32.89), 1:53.90 (27.73) en route to her fourth straight win in the event at the CIF SS D2 competition.
