Three-time Olympian Dana Vollmer announced via her Instagram account on Tuesday night that she was “feeling speedy” in the water. So speedy that she will swim the 50 free and fly at the upcoming TYR Pro Swim Series in Austin on January 13. The meet starts January 11 and will go to the 14.

Vollmer has dubbed herself “a momma on a mission” since giving birth to her first son, Arlen in March 2015. Vollmer won the bronze medal in the 100 fly at the Rio Olympics and swam the butterfly leg on the gold medal winning 400 medley relay team.

Vollmer stepped away from the sport after winning the bronze in the 100 fly at the 2013 World Championships, but she never did “retire,” as she returned to competition in July 2015 just four months after giving birth. Vollmer gave birth to her second son, Ryker in July 2017. This will be Vollmer’s first competition just six months after giving birth for the second time.

Vollmer is now 30 and has stated she is shooting for a fourth Olympic berth in Tokyo when she swam at the 2017 Arena Pro Swim Series in Mesa while six months pregnant with Ryker. If Vollmer can make the 2020 team by the time she is 32, she will be the fourth American female swimmer to make four Olympic teams, as Amanda Beard and Jenny Thompson made four while Dara Torres made five.

A “feeling speedy” “momma on a mission” is music to my ears. I hope Vollmer makes back for one more Olympics. She’s the Dana I like.
