NEW COMMIT: The University of Cincinnati has earned a new in-state verbal commitment for the 2022-23 season and beyond from Futures qualifier Mia Hensley of Lancaster, Ohio.

She will join Abi Carroll and Grace Gavin as a member of the Bearcats’ Class of 2026.

She told Swimming World:

“I am absolutely thrilled to announce my verbal commitment to continue my athletic and academic career at the University of Cincinnati! Words can’t express how grateful I am for everyone who has helped me along the way. I’m so excited to be apart of this amazing program with great coaches and teammates!! Go bearcats!!!”

A versatile swimmer, Hensley does her club swimming with Lancaster YMCA Stingrays and most recently earned three best times at the YMCA Long Course Swimming Festival in July. In December, she finished fourth in the 200 fly and seventh in the 400 IM at the 18&U Winter Championships – Oxford.

Her best times include:

  • 100 fly – 57.75
  • 200 fly – 2:03.86
  • 200 back – 2:00.77
  • 200 IM – 2:06.10
  • 400 IM – 4:26.33

Also competing for Lancaster High School, Hensley placed 15th in the 200 IM at the Ohio State DII Championships as a sophomore. The week prior, she finished fifth in the 200 IM and seventh in the 500 free at the OHSAA District Championships.

Hensley will make an immediate impact when she suits up for the Bearcats, as she would’ve scored in five different events at the 2021 American Athletic Conference Championships. Her best 200 back time would’ve placed seventh at last year’s championship meet while ranking her eighth all-time on Cincinnati’s record book.
