Case Western Sweeps Allegheny

Nov. 4. THE Case Western Reserve University men’s and women's swim teams opened their 2001-2002 season this past week as they traveled to Allegheny College for dual meets.

Men's Meet
The Spartan men placed first in eight out of 13 events, defeating Allegheny 151-88. Junior Jon Gellin (Buffalo – NY) and sophomore Dave Whitbeck (Northville – MI) led the team with two first place individual finishes apiece.

Gellin won the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:04.56 and the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:03.02 while Whitbeck placed first in the 1000 freestyle with a mark of 10:21.86 and the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:03.55. Gellin also swam on the first place Spartan 400 Medley Relay team that recorded a time of 3:48.96.

Women's Meet
The Spartan women’s swim team traveled with the men to Allegheny College this past Saturday for their first meet of the season. The ladies also swam away with it, defeating Allegheny 121-90, placing first in eight out of 13 events as well.

CWRU sophomore Alicia Kendig (Hempfield – PA) led the team winning the 1000 freestyle with a time of 10:36.72 (personal best) and the 500 freestyle with a NCAA "B" cut of 5:11.24.

Sophomore Liz Badziong (Parma – OH) also recorded two individual first place finishes. Badziong won the 200 Backstroke with a time of 2:16.94 and the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:18.55.
