NEW COMMIT: Notre Dame has gained a new commitment for this upcoming fall from breaststroker Meaghan Lyons of Bluffton, South Carolina.

Lyons does her club swimming with Hilton Head Aquatics and owns the Summer Juniors cut in the 100 breast and the U.S. Open cut in the 200 breast. She most recently competed in three events at Juniors East last month and recorded a lifetime best at NCSAs in March. She capped off her extremely successful summer season by competing in both breaststroke events at Junior Nationals after taking second in both events at the South Carolina LCM Championships.

Also competing for John Paull II Catholic School, Lyons is an eight-time South Carolina 4A State Championship finalist. The USA Swimming Scholastic All-American earned the silver in the 100 breast and 200 IM as a senior after placing second and third, respectively, in those events during her junior season.

She told Swimming World:

“I am honored to announce my commitment to study and swim at the University of Notre Dame for the next four years! The opportunity to continue my education and swim career in a community so rich in tradition and excellence is a long time dream come true. Thank you to my family, my coaches, my teammates, and my new Notre Dame family for helping me reach this goal. Go Irish! #GodCountryNotreDame”

Her best times include:

  • 100 breast – 1:05.31
  • 200 breast – 2:19.90
  • 100m breast – 1:13.08
  • 200m breast – 2:36.38

Although she’s not quite in scoring range at the ACC Championships just yet, Lyons has made tremendous improvements over the past few seasons. Over the past two years, she has dropped three seconds from her 100 breast and six seconds off her 200 breast. When she arrives on campus as a member of the class of 2023, she’ll add her talents to a training group that’ll include Samantha Eyolfson.
