The Brazilian Nationals concluded Sunday from Rio de Janeiro with three relay time trials as the Brazilian Swimming Federation was trying to swim some relay time trials to gain qualification for the Olympic Games. The relay qualification period ends May 31 with the four fastest relays that haven’t already qualified from the top 12 places at the 2019 Worlds.

Brazil swam a new South American record in the time trial for the mixed medley relay with the team of Guilherme Basseto (53.68), Felipe Lima (59.03), Giovanna Diamante (59.10) and Larissa Oliveira (53.70) at 3:45.51. That theoretically should qualify for Tokyo in the event that will be making its Olympic debut this summer as a 3:45.20 made the final at the 2019 Worlds. Right now, Brazil appears to be the third fastest nation in the qualifying period behind China and Japan.

The Brazilian women also time trialed a 4×100 free relay with a 3:38.59, just off the national record of 3:37.39 from the 2015 Pan American Games. Oliveira led off in a 54.95 and was followed by Ana Vieira (54.46), Etiene Medeiros (54.60) and Stephanie Balduccini (54.58) as they are now the second fastest team in line for qualification behind France.

The women’s medley relay also time trialed for potential Olympic qualification as the team of Medeiros (1:03.89), Jhennifer Conceicao (1:06.79), Diamante (58.83) and Oliveira (54.82) swam a 4:04.33.
