After star pupil Michael Phelps won his third event in three days, all while clocking the top time in the world in each event, Bob Bowman stopped by to talk to the media. On Sunday, Phelps won the 200 IM in 1:54.75 after swimming ahead of world record-pace through 150 meters. His time easily cleared Ryan Lochte’s previous world best of 1:55.61.

Bowman discussed his excitement with Phelps’ performances in San Antonio and what he expects from Phelps in both training and competition moving forward. Bowman compared his expectations of Phelps’ performance in San Antonio to what actually transpired, and he also took a look at Chase Kalisz’ bronze medal swim in the 400 IM at the World Championships in Russia.

Go Michael!! Usually we all want to root for the underdog, but Michael is the exception. Swimming needs a superstar like him.
