Big Ten Weekly Honors: Ruslan Gaziev, Anna Peplowski Lead Award Winners

The Big Ten Conference announced its weekly swimming and diving awards.

Big Ten Men’s Swimmer of the Week
Ruslan Gaziev, Ohio State
Gr. – Toronto, Ont. – St. Joseph – Major: Economics

  • Helped the Buckeyes to a victory at the Ohio State Fall Invitational
  • Finished second in the 100 Free (42.45) and 200 Free (1:33.82), both times are the second fastest in the Big Ten this season.
  • Earned podium finishes in the 200, 400 and, 800 Free and 400 Medley Relay events
  • Garners his third career Swimmer of the Week award and second in a row
  • Last Ohio State Swimmer of the Week: Ruslan Gaziev (Nov. 16, 2022)

Big Ten Men’s Diver of the Week
Quinn Henninger, Indiana
So. – Denver, Colo. – Regis Jesuit – Major: Finance

  • Won the platform diving event at the Ohio State Fall Invitational with a score of 416.55
  • Scored a 378.70 on the 1-meter springboard and 400.25 on the 3-meter springboard
  • Achieved NCAA Qualifying Zone scores in each of three events
  • Scores his second career Diver of the Week award, both coming this season
  • Last Indiana Diver of the Week: Quinn Henninger (Oct. 26, 2022)

Big Ten Men’s Freshman of the Week 
Eitan Ben-Shitrit, Michigan
Fr. – R’Anana, Israel

  • Posted personal best times in the 200 IM (1:44.93) and 200 Back (1:43.90), the fifth and sixth best times in the conference this season, respectively
  • Time of 3:47.59 in the 400 IM ranks as the fourth fastest in the Big Ten this season
  • Posted NCAA B Cut times in all three events.
  • Earns his second career Freshman of the Week award
  • Last Michigan Freshman of the Week: Eitan Ben-Shitrit (Nov. 9, 2022)

 

Big Ten Women’s Swimmer of the Week
Anna Peplowski, Indiana
So. – Germantown Hills, Ill. – Metamora

  • Placed first in the 400 free relay with an NCAA ‘A’ cut time of 3:13.45, the fastest time in the Big Ten and sixth fastest in the country
  • Placed first in the 200 freestyle with an NCAA ‘B’ cut time of 1:44.19, the fifth fastest time in the country
  • Placed first in the 200 backstroke with an NCAA ‘B’ cut time of 1:52, the fastest time in the Big Ten and fifth fastest in the country
  • Placed first in the 100 backstroke with an NCAA ‘B’ cut time of 52.12, the fastest time in the Big Ten
  • Placed first in the 200 medley relay with an NCAA ‘A’ cut time of 1:35.98
  • Placed first in the 200 freestyle relay with an NCAA ‘A’ cut time of 1:27.75
  • Finished second in the 400 medley relay with an NCAA ‘A’ cut time of 3:30.60
  • Finished second in the 800 freestyle medley in 7:06.45 (1:45.95 leadoff split)
  • Earns her first career Swimmer of the Week award
  • Last Indiana Women’s Swimmer of the Week: Mackenzie Looze (Nov. 24, 2021)

Big Ten Women’s Diver of the Week
Sophie McAfee, Purdue
So. – San Marino, Ca. – Polytechnic – Major: Economics

  • Placed first in the 1-meter with a score of 305.05 (NCAA Zone qualifying)
  • Placed first in the 3-meter with a score of 335.45 (NCAA Zone qualifying)
  • Placed first on platform with a score of 261.35 (NCAA Zone qualifying)
  • Finished seventh in the Championship Final
  • Earns her first career Diver of the Week
  • Last Purdue Women’s Diver of the Week: Emily (Bretcher) Pfeiffer (Nov. 24,2021)
