NEW COMMIT: Bend, Oregon native Ula McPherson has announced her verbal commitment to Washington State University and will join the Cougars as a member of the class of 2024.

McPherson swims year-round with Bend Swim Club and recently recorded a best time in the 200 free at Federal Way Speedo Sectionals. Last summer, she raced six events at Western Zone Seniors where she notched a lifetime best in the 200m IM. Also competing for Bend Senior High School, McPherson is a six-time Oregon 5A State Championship finalist. She placed fourth in the 50 free and ninth in the 100 free as a junior after finishing second in the former event as well as fourth in the 100 fly during her sophomore season.

She told Swimming World:

“I am extremely excited to make a commitment to swim for Washington State University Cougars.  I knew once I visited the campus, this was the school for me.  I’m very impressed by their coach, Matthew Leach, the athletic program and facilities, and the quality of their academic programs.  I think WSU will give me an amazing college experience, and I can’t want to get in the water.  Thank you to all coaches and family who have helped me get this far.  GO COUGS”

Her best times include:

  • 50 free – 23.90
  • 100 free – 52.75
  • 200 free – 1:56.48
  • 200 IM – 2:13.94
  • 400 IM – 4:49.57

McPherson has continuously made improvements each season and will add valuable depth to Washington State’s lineup. When she arrives on campus in the fall of 2020, she’ll add her talents to a sprint group led by Chloe Larson and Emily Barrier.
