NCAA Title Contender Calypso Sheridan Off to USC as Graduate Transfer

The University of Southern California have boosted its women’s roster in a major way, with Australian star Calypso Sheridan joining the Trojans as a graduate transfer. Sheridan formerly competed for Northwestern University and will have one year of eligibility when she arrives in SoCal and reunites with USC coach Jeremy Kipp.

Before Kipp took the head-coaching role at USC, he was in charge at Northwestern and guided Sheridan in the Big Ten Conference. While at Northwestern, Sheridan set a Big Ten record in the 400-yard individual medley and was fourth in that event at the 2019 NCAA Championships. In 2020, Sheridan won Big Ten titles in the 400 individual medley and 200 breaststroke. Last season, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Sheridan opted to bypass the NCAA season and remain in her native Australia.

“Calypso is one of the most talented student-athletes I have ever worked with,” Kipp said. “When she was admitted to the Viterbi School for Aerospace Engineering I was not surprised, but rather more impressed by her ability and willingness to reach ever further in her personal pursuits. We can’t wait for Calyspo to join the Trojans in Los Angeles as she takes on a new challenge in her career.”

Sheridan will provide an immediate impact for USC and contention for the NCAA title next season is likely. Before she heads to Southern California, though, Sheridan will race at the Australian Olympic Trials next month, seeking qualification for this summer’s Olympic Games in Tokyo.
