NEW COMMIT: Astrid Villeda has verbally committed to swim for Northern Arizona University beginning with the 2018-2019 season. She is from Las Vegas where she swims with Desert Storm Swimming and is a senior at Rancho High School.

At last year’s Nevada 4A High School state championships Villeda touched third in the 200 freestyle (1:54.39). She also finished runner up in the 500 freestyle with a 5:05.49.

Villeda is fairly versatile, and strongest in the 500 free. Her best times are:

  • 500 Free 4:56.16
  • 200 Free 1:52.06
  • 400 IM 4:27.50
  • 200 IM 2:07.34
  • 200 Fly 2:08.92

Villeda broke five minutes last year, dropping nearly five seconds from her best in 2016, a 5:01.30. Villeda should be a point scoring contributor for the defending WAC Champions. Her best 500 freestyle time would have finished seventh last year. She also would have replicated that finish in the 400 IM.

She told Swimming World,

“I’m beyond blessed and excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my swimming and academic career at Northern Arizona University. Huge thank you to my family, coach, friends, and everyone that has ever supported me throughout the years. So thankful for this blessing opportunity. Go lumberjacks”
