Arkansas State Champion Luciana Thomas Verbally Commits to Notre Dame

NEW COMMIT: Fayetteville, Arkansas’ Luciana Thomas has verbally committed to the University of Notre Dame. Thomas is a great butterflier and 400 IMer at Razorback Aquatic Club Aquahogs.

Her top times are:

200 Fly 1:57.84
100 Fly 54.99
400 IM 4:16.30

Swimming for Haas Hall in 2015 she set the Arkansas high school 200 IM state record with a 2:04.34. Last year she won the 100 butterfly in 55.70 to win the 1A-5A title in state record time. That record was short lived, lowered at the 6A/7A meet that afternoon. Thomas also won the 200 freestyle (1:53.55) by a huge margin.

She wrote on Instagram,

“I am so excited to announce my verbal commitment to the University of Notre Dame! I can’t wait to be a part of NDs swimming and diving class of ’22! Go Irish!”

Thomas appears set to make an impact off the bat for the Fighting Irish. Her best 200 butterfly would have put her in the ACC B final last year. A finalist Nicole Smith will be a senior when Thomas arrives while B finalist Erin Sheehan will be a junior and offer an excellent training partner for Thomas. With her best times Thomas would also score points in the 400 IM where she would have been a B finalist. In that event she would have been Notre Dame’s highest finisher. They had one C finalist last year.

Thomas joins Bayley Stewart and Madeline LaPorte in the Notre Dame Class of 2022.
