NEW COMMIT: The University of Arizona has received a new verbal commitment for the 2022-23 season and beyond from Junior National qualifier Maya Gallimore of San Clemente, California.

She will join Paige Armstrong, Alexis Newman and Eleni Gewalt as a member of the Wildcats’ Class of 2026.

She told Swimming World:

“I am super excited to announce my verbal commitment to swim and study at the University of Arizona!! Thank you to all of my coaches, my friends, and my family for supporting me and helping me along the way; you all mean so much to me.  Bear down!!”

A talented sprint freestyler, Gallimore does her club swimming with San Clemente Aquatic Team and most recently raced to 17th place in the 50m free at Santa Clarita Futures in July after taking 11th in that event as well as 16th in the 100m free at Fullerton Sectionals. She also competed at the 18&U Spring Cup in Irvine as well as the 18&U Winter Championships back in December.

Her best times include:

  • 50 free – 23.71
  • 100 free – 52.43
  • 50m free – 26.87
  • 100m free – 59.41

Also competing for San Juan Hills High School, Gallimore finished seventh in the 50 free and 16th in the 100 fly as a junior at the CIF DI Southern Section Championships. She has also earned USA Swimming Scholastic All-American honors for her efforts in both the pool and classroom.

Gallimore will add valuable depth both individually and on relays to the Wildcats’ lineup when she arrives on campus in the fall of 2022, as she would’ve been their seventh-fastest 50 freestyler last season. Under head coach Augie Busch, Arizona finished sixth at the 2021 PAC-12 Championships.
