NEW COMMIT: One of the top breaststrokers in his class, Liam Bell has announced his verbal commitment to the University of Alabama. The Atlanta, Ga. native will make the move to Tuscaloosa next fall.

Bell does his club swimming with US Aquatics Club where he has achieved the Junior National standard or better in five different events. He capped off his summer season with six personal bests and six top-5 finishes at Georgia Senior LCM Championships, which included two golds in the 50m breast and 100m breast. He also placed ninth in both the 50 and 100 breast at the 2017 NCSA Championships.

A 2016 Olympic Trials qualifier, Bell currently swims for Druid Hills High School and has earned NISCA All-American honors. As a sophomore, he was the 100 breast and placed fifth in the 200 IM at the Georgia State Championships after finishing second in both of those events as a freshman for Chamblee High School.

He told Swimming World:

“I’m extremely excited and honored to announce my verbal commitment to further both my education and swimming at the University of Alabama. Roll Tide Roll!”

His best times include:

  • 100 breast – 54.03
  • 200 breast – 2:00.13
  • 50 free – 20.69
  • 100 free – 44.60
  • 200 IM – 1:49.67

Bell will add valuable depth to Alabama’s breaststroke group when he suits up next fall and will join a training group that includes Richard Miksi and Michael Burris. Bell’s best 100 breast time would’ve ranked second on their lineup last season and would’ve scored in the C-final at the 2018 SEC Championships.
