British teammates Adam Peaty and James Wilby clocked the top two times in the world in the 100 breaststroke today in the finals of the 2019 Edinburgh International Championships in Edinburgh, Scotland.

Peaty posted the first sub-59 effort of 2019 in finals, posting a 58.73 (27.25/31.48) to take the #1 spot in the world. The 24-year old world record holder was 59.94 through the heats before dropping more than a second in the finals tonight.

Just behind him was Wilby, who swam to a new personal best of 59.23 (27.93/31.30). That moves him just .01 ahead of former #1 in the world Yasuhiro Kosecki of Japan, who had the fastest time in the world from last month. Notably, Wilby was .18 quicker than Peaty on the second 50, showing he may have a bit more to give on the front end.

Wilby, who was the gold medalist in the 200 breast and silver medalist behind Peaty in the 100 breast at the 2018 Commonwealth Games, is just a week out from competing at the TYR Pro Swim Series in Des Moines. At that meet he finished second to American Michael Andrew in the 100 breast, dipping just under 1:00 with a 59.91.
