NEW COMMIT: Anya Goeders has verbally committed to swim for Stanford University, according to her CollegeSwimming.com profile. The Lowell, Indiana native, who will graduate next spring in 2018, has turned heads for a while, not just for repeatedly being one of the youngest sprint freestylers on swimming’s largest stages, but for dropping big times without a kneeskin.

At last week’s World Championship Trials she won the C final of the 50 freestyle. At the 2014 US Nationals meet Goeders was the youngest competitor, then just 13 years old. Last summer she raced her way into the semifinals of the 50 freestyle at Olympic Trials. Ultimately her results at that meet earned her a trip to Junior Pan Pacs in Maui where she won the 50 freestyle, just .05 shy of Simone Manuel’s National Age Group record.

Goeders trains with Mako Swim Team and doesn’t swim for her high school.

Her best times are (SCY/LCM):

  • 50 Free (22.44/24.85)
  • 100 Free (49.39/56.32)
  • 100 Back (55.49/1:02.76)
  • 100 Fly (54.63/1:03.14)

Goeders will get a year to train alongside Manuel. At the 2017 Pac-12 Championships Goeders would have been a 50 and 100 freestyle B finalist with her best times. She’d be a C finalist in the 100 butterfly and would sit just outside scoring range with her best 100 backstroke time.
