The 2022 Phillips 66 U.S. National Championships continues in Irvine, California, with Day 3, and heat sheets have been released.

It is one of the lighter days with just four events on the docket. The women’s and men’s 400 IM and the women’s and men’s 100 butterfly make for a quick but impactful session.

Leah Smith is the top seed in the women’s 400 IM and will have Lane 4 in the fifth and final heat. She will be joined by young guns Justina Kozan and Teagan O’Dell in the heat. Meanwhile, Katie Ledecky is the second seed overall and will have Lane 4 in heat 4. Mackenzie Looze, who won the 200 breaststroke yesterday, will also be in that heat.

In the men’s 400 IM, Max Litchfield has the top seed in the sixth and final heat, while Olympic freestyle champion Bobby Finke will be in the fifth heat along with Texas’ Jake Foster and Cal’s Sean Grieshop.

The heat sheets for the women’s 100 butterfly show Olympian Claire Curzan as the top seed. She will be in the ninth and final heat alongside NCAA champion Beata Nelson. But the eighth heat is loaded with talented swimmers, as Kelly Pash has the second overall seed and will be in Lane 4. She is joined in that heat by Gretchen Walsh, Gabi Albiero and Rhyan White. Meanwhile, 200 fly champion Dakota Luther and Texas All-American Olivia Bray are in the seventh heat.

The men’s 100 butterfly shows plenty of talent on the entry lists. The top overall seed is Shaine Casas, and he will be flanked by Olympian Tom Shields and Camden Murphy. Russia’s Andrei Minakov and Cal’s Gabriel Jett loom in the eighth heat.

Just a handful of events, but with big names, there should be some quality races.
