The 2022 Phillips 66 U.S. National Championships continues in Irvine, California, with Day 3, and heat sheets have been released for finals. It is one of the lighter days with just four events on the docket. The women’s and men’s 400 IM and the women’s and men’s 100 butterfly make for a quick but impactful session.

Olympian Claire Curzan, who was fourth in the 100 butterfly out of prelims, is not on the heat sheets for finals, having scratched the event with a non-COVID-related illness.

Leah Smith is the top seed in the women’s 400 IM and will have Lane 4 in the finals. Katie Ledecky will be one lane over, while Michigan’s Kathryn Ackerman will be in Lane 3 and will look to keep up with the Olympians.

In the men’s 400 IM, Max Litchfield of Great Britain has the top seed, while Olympic medalist Kieran Smith will be right by his side.

The heat sheets for the women’s 100 butterfly show Gabi Albiero asthe top seed from prelims, with NCAA champion Beata Nelson, 200 fly national champion Dakota Luther and Virginia national champion Gretchen Walsh all in the finals.

The men’s 100 butterfly shows plenty of talent on the heat sheets. The top overall seed is Shaine Casas, but the finals will also see Trenton Julian, Andrei Minakov, Gabriel Jett, Camden Murphy and Marius Kusch ready to race.
