The 2022 NCAA Men’s Division I Swimming and Diving Championship continued with the prelims of the 200-yard individual medley from McAuley Aquatic Center on the campus of Georgia Tech in Atlanta.

Arizona State freshman Leon Marchand has continued his superb first season for the Sun Devils. He came in with the top seed in 1:39.65, the only man in the field under 1:40 so far this season. Arizona State teammate Grant House has been close, as has Texas sophomore Carson Foster, Stanford freshman Ron Polonsky and Virginia Tech’s Carles Coll Marti.

But it was Cal’s Destin Lasco that would take the top seed and break the pool record in the 200 IM.

Texas’ Braden Vines took the top swim in heat 5, using a strong breaststroke leg to touch in 1:42.35.

In the sixth heat, Carles Coll Marti took the top spot with a 1:40.45, ahead of Cal’s Hugo Gonzalez (1:40.47).

In the seventh heat, Carson Foster went 1:40.07 from the middle of the pool, while Cal’s Trenton Julian was just behind at 1:40.35 from lane 1.

In the eighth heat, 27.99 from Destin Lasco in the breaststroke kept him right on Leon Marchand and eventually he passed him in the final yards to touch in 1:38.71. Marchand was next in 1:38.83.

House went a 1:41.85 and took the 12th seed.
