2019 SEC Championships Day 4 Prelims: Georgia Takes Top Seeds

The fourth day prelims session of the 2019 SEC Swimming and Diving Championships featured heats of the 200 fly, 100 back and 100 breast on Friday at Georgia.

Women’s 200 fly

Georgia freshmen took the top two seeds in the 200 fly to open Friday’s session. Not only did they take the top two spots, but they tied.

Dakota Luther and Olivia Carter both took the top spot in 1:54.46, getting the Bulldogs off to a fast start heading into the weekend.

Texas A&M took the next two spots as sophomore Jing Quah finished in 1:55.19, followed by sophomore Taylor Pike (1:55.70).

Florida senior Georgia Marris took the fifth seed in 1:55.94, followed by Kentucky’s Haley McIrney (1:56.04), Izzy Gati (1:56.06) and Georgia senior Caitlin Casazza (1:56.20).

Men’s 200 Fly

Georgia continued the fast pace to open the men’s portion of the session as sophomore Camden Murphy took the top seed in the 200 fly in 1:42.18.

He was just six hundredths ahead of South Carolina senior Fynn Minuth, who finished in 1:42.24.

Florida’s Maxime Rooney was also not far being, taking the third spot in 1:42.32.

Texas A&M’s Angel Martinez took the fourth seed (1:42.58), followed by Missouri junior Micah Slaton (1:42.80), Florida sophomore Erge Gezmis (1:43.36), Tennessee junior Marc Hinawi (1:43.66) and Auburn junior Santiago Grassi (1:43.85).

Women’s 100 Back

The women’s 100 back is shaping up to have an epic final after a closely contested preliminary session.

Florida junior Sherridon Dressel took the top seed in 50.93, just one hundredth ahead of Auburn senior Aly Tetzloff (50.94).

Kentucky junior Asia Seidt took the third seed in 51.32 just ahead of Auburn senior Erin Falconer (51.43).

Missouri junior Haley Hynes took the fifth seed in 52.20, followed by Florida junior Emma Ball (52.28), Alabama freshman Rhyan White (52.57), Missouri sophomore Sarah Thompson (52.63).

Men’s 100 Back

Alabama junior Zane Waddell took the top seed in the men’s 100 back, ahead of several close competitors.

Waddell finished in 45.21. Tennessee senior Joey Reilman and Florida freshman Kacper Stokowski tied for the second seed in 45.47.

Florida senior Bayley Main took the fourth seed in 45.66, followed by Missouri juniors Daniel Hein (45.79) and Nick Alexander (45.96), Texas A&M’s Shaine Casas (45.98) and Georgia’s Javier Acevedo (46.01).

Tennessee sophomore Nikol Popov surged to the top seed in the 100 breast, finishing in 58.62, an NCAA automatic qualifying time.

Texas A&M’s Anna Belousova was just being in 59.16, taking the second seed.

LSU senior Summer Spradley took the third seed in 59.24, followed by Alabama senior Justine MacFarlane (59.64), Kentucky sophomore Bailey Bonnett (59.88), Texas A&M’s Kylie Powers (59.93), Georgia junior Sofia Carnevale (1:00.06) and LSU junior Olivia Paskulin (1:00.10).

Men’s 100 Breast

Missouri junior Caleb Hicks held off the field to take the top seed in the men’s 100 breast to close out the swimming portion of the prelims session.

Hicks finished in 51.87, holding off Alabama senior Laurent Bams (51.96) and South Carolina’s Itay Goldfaden (51.99).

Florida junior Marco Guarante took the fourth seed in 52.36, followed by Auburn senior Tommy Brewer (52.51), Missouri senior Jordan O’Brien (52.52), Texas A&M junior Benjamin Walker (52.61), who tied for seventh with Tennessee freshman Michael Houlie (52.61).
