The third morning of the 2019 NCAA Division I Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships in Austin, Texas, will have the heats of the 400 IM, 100 fly, 200 free, 100 breast, 100 back and 200 medley relay.

Coming into Friday, Stanford holds a half-point lead over Cal (173.5-173) with Michigan third and Louisville fourth. According to the psych sheets, if everyone holds their seeds the rest of the meet, Stanford will score 436.5 points, followed by Cal (381), Michigan (300), Tennessee (202), USC (194) and Louisville (191).

Stanford’s Ella Eastin is the favorite in the 400 IM, while NCAA record-holder Louise Hansson is the obvious favorite in the 100 fly. The 200 free could be one of the best races of the meet with Louisville’s Mallory Comerford, Michigan’s Siobhan Haughey, Stanford’s Taylor Ruck and Cal’s Abbey Weitzeil, who set the American record in the 50 free last night.

Lilly King will look to make it 4-for-4 in 100 breast NCAA titles, while Beata Nelson will look to claim her second title of the meet in the 100 back.

400 IM

As expected, Stanford’s Ella Eastin cruised to the top seed in the 400 IM to open Friday’s session.

Eastin swam a 4:02.05, well off of her NCAA and American record time of 3:54.60 set at last year’s championships, but enough to hold off the field and take the top spot going into finals.

Teammate Brooke Forde, who is having a stellar meet, continued her fast pace, taking the second seed in 4:02.65. Forde won the 500 free on Thursday and anchored the winning 800 free relay to open the meet.

The duo looks to score big points for the Cardinal in finals, along with freshman Allie Raab, who took the seventh spot (4:05.28).

Texas A&M senior Sydney Pickrem took the third seed in 4:03.43. She has been a mainstay in the finals of this event.

Northwestern sophomore Calypso Sheridan took the fourth seed in 4:03.43 with a strong swim to win her heat.

South Carolina senior Emma Barksdale was fifth at 4:04.62, followed by Indiana senior Bailey Andison (4:04.80).

Florida junior Kelly Fertel took the eighth seed in 4:05.32.

100 Fly

After USC’s Louise Hansson set the NCAA record in the 100 fly at the Pac-12 Championships, the defending NCAA champion looked poised for a big swim again.

After Friday’s prelims, it still looks that way as Hansson took the top seed in the event in 49.98, the only swimmer to go sub-50 in prelims.

Michigan’s Maggie MacNeil, the Big Ten champion in the event, took the second seed in 50.35 — the first of her daily double — followed by SEC champion Erika Brown of Tennessee, who clocked a 50.53.

Auburn senior Aly Tetzloff earned the fourth seed with a 50.94, ahead of Virginia junior Morgan Hill (51.04).

Cal senior Katie McLaughlin completed the first leg of her daily double by taking the sixth seed in 51.05. She has the 200 free later this morning.

Cal freshman Izzy Ivey took the seventh spot in 51.23 and Louisville junior Grace Oglesby swam a 51.27 to take the final spot in the finals.

200 Free

Michigan senior Siobhan Haughey and Louisville senior Mallory Comerford have had some stellar races head-to-head the past few years in the 200 free.

They look poised for another one after Friday’s prelims.

Haughey took the top seed in 1:41.67 ahead of Stanford freshman Taylor Ruck (1:41.83) and Comerford (1:42.27).

For Ruck, it is the first race in her daily double. She has the 100 back later in the session.

Michigan senior Catie DeLoof earned the fourth seed in 1:42.75.

Cal got three in the finals, led by Katie McLaughlin, who took the fifth seed in 1:42.85, just a few minutes after making the final in the 100 fly.

Teammate Robin Neumann sits sixth (1:43.04) and Abbey Weitzeil is eighth (1:43.42).

Virginia’s Paige Madden took the seventh seed (1:43.30).
