2016 MAC Championships: Night One

200 Medley Relay

The University of Akron won the first event of the meet, the 200 medley relay, and set a new MAC record in the process. The team of Madison Myers, Hannah Raspopovich, Sadie Fazekas and Ashley Niznik went a 1:37.28 to take the win.

Relay Splits:

Back(Myers) 24.85, Breast(Raspopovich) 26.94, Fly(Fazekas): 22.96, Free(Niznik): 22.53

Coming in second was the Eastern Michigan team of Alexis Mitcheltree, Delaney Duncan, Dora Vrcic, and Mary Kate Maclean in a time of 1:38.58. Third was Bowling Green.

800 Freestyle Relay

The University of Buffalo took home the gold in the Women’s 800 Freestyle relay. The team of Sarah Baxter, Jess Powers, Kerry Giovanniello, and Megan Burns touched the wall in a 7:13.83. In second place was the University of Akron in a 7:15.75 and third was Eastern Michigan.

Relay Splits:

Baxter: 1:48.79

Powers: 1:47.02

Giovanniello: 1:51.12

Burns: 1:46.90

The competition continues on Thursday with preliminaries beginning at 11:00 a.m. The evening finals session will stream on ESPN3 at 7:00 p.m.
